what we've read (last read date // total reads)

this isn't a comprehensive list - just stuff that we think is important on some level. we'll add blurbs to each book as we go on, along with last date read. why is there only trans stuff? because i haven't filled out the rest of the thing yet and the rest of my books are harder to get to / remember right now.

nonfiction

whipping girl - julia serano (may '24 // 4 reads)

this should be required reading for everyone. it is perhaps the single most fundamental reading to actually help understand what transmisogyny is and how it manifests. serano is cited as one of the foremost thinkers in this field for a reason. the entire reason i started this page was to make sure i told people to go read this book. -static

fiction

wrath goddess sing - maya deane (nov '24 // 1 read)

light from uncommon stars - ryka aoki (nov '24 // 1 read)

this book rekindled my interest in playing the violin again. it brought back memories i'd forgotten, it helped me work through trauma from a past relationship i thought i'd never heal from. i cannot recommend this book highly enough. truly a masterclass. -static

terry pratchett's discworld series (constantly // countless)
the lies of locke lamora - scott lynch (jun '22 // 5 reads)

it's just an incredibly well-written heist book. i love heists. dearly. and this one is a masterpiece. sequels exist and are, i would say, also very good, but be warned that the series is probably never going to actually finish being written as it's been 11 years since the last one, so if you don't like to wait...leave it at one or two books, and call it there. it stands alone admirably anyway. -alli

a safe girl to love - casey plett (feb '24 // 3 reads)
when i arrived at the castle - e.m. carroll (nov '24 // 4 reads)

a short graphic novel with the power to stick with you. erotic horror with women. art that evokes so many goshdang feelings in me. it's a 15 minute read, but it's worth it. (their other work is also well worth it - i truly loved a guest in the house, and i know they've written some webcomics, so do explore more as well!) -static
